the days are longer and lighter already and that can only mean one thing. summer is on its way… lee burridge and lost desert return with sunshine days in mind on their ‘loopyness’ ep. an apt description indeed for the title track. its infectious groove rolls forward, making you want to get up and wiggle your hips, this track has funk. a live guitar lifts the track halfway through, as stuttered vocals and string-like synth lines take you away to other worlds. over on the other side of the vinyl (or track two for digital fans) is ‘botanic’. another summer daze, groovy, light and airy with a slinky fat bassline and a warm breakdown. music to close your eyes and drift away to, this track has been a firm favourite on all day i dream dance floors since last summer. the ep comes to a close with ‘12cc’ featuring junior. a dubbier groove underpins the whole affair while glass-like melodies and laid back synths sway back and forth. it’s a patient groover that rewards those who take the ride.

back down on my knees is a raw house cut combining a pounding bass drum and clever percussion reminiscent of a late 00 s new york sound with washed synths. i m amazed offers an ambient track lead by a simple piano interlaced with a field recording taken on a subway platform in new york. on the other side rubber jam is a tough hardware jam with a floaty arpeggiated synth line. here will be blood rounds the ep out relying on percussion to drive the track with breakbeat and a heavy bassline.

the visionary musician and record producer augustus pablo made some of the most unique and individual recordings in the history of reggae. as with his friend and mentor, jackie mittoo, the man born horace swaby was of mixed indian and african heritage, and although his middleclass background might have pointed him in a very different direction, the lure of jamaica’s sound system culture captured him at a young age, particularly after debilitating health problems saw him drop out of school. he began recording as a session keyboardist as the 60s gave way to the 70s, but everything changed when a schoolfriend introduced him to the melodica, a small plastic keyboard operated by a mouthpiece, which he used on seminal recordings for producer herman chin-loy, credited to augustus pablo on release. during the early 1970s, pablo crafted melodica instrumentals for all of the leading reggae producers, scoring ‘best instrumental’ for ‘java’ in 1973, and launching the rockers label to showcase self-produced work at the same time. this multifaceted compilation, first issued on bunny lee’s attack label in 2005, compiles memorable melodica interpretations of some of lee’s greatest productions, recorded over dub cuts of immortal numbers such as cornell campbell’s ‘queen of the minstrel’ and john holt’s ‘my desire.’ reissued on lp and cd with bonus tracks!

this disco funk banger was discovered reasonably late in the game on the deepfunk scene. vivian lee s big powerful vocal over the pushy backing is what its all about, straight to the point short and sweet dance floor killer. this sounds better than the o.g which was pretty rough.

modugroove is a new record label by lee renacre from 100hz. started in 1989, their first release low frequency overload with optimism records entered the national music charts. lee then started a record label called format records with great tracks and reviews. lee has released with various classic record labels of the 1990 s including pacific records, oblong, rehab and eukahouse. he was included as one of several london artists who were considered to have started the tech-house scene according to mixmag september 1997. recently 100hz have been releasing music with bosconi, imprints, hi phen and logistic records. modugroove aims to release future classic music with new and known artists with a passion for the extraordinary. the first release is called modulation and is a showcase of the wonderful world of analogue modulating synthesis. stealthy and deep these tracks include a new collaboration group called junction chaos who improvise new music.

for over five years, all day i dream has been where deep and emotive meet house music. propelled by a community of forward thinking artists drawn around the scion of master curator and sunset/sunrise set specialist, lee burridge. all day i dream formally welcomes lost desert to the label with the release of lingala, a two-track collaborative effort with burridge himself, that also features junior on vocals. lost desert was picked out of obscurity after burridge discovered his music while trekking in a remote area of a long lost land. a fast forged friendship inevitably lead to the studio, and lingala’s the enrapturing sophomore result. the duo’s first project together debuted on lee’s night time imprint, get weird, earlier this year to widespread support. lingala, is a beautifully composed ten-minute sonic journey. built around a mystical lead vocal sung by newcomer junior in his native linagles the raw emotion slowly builds in intensity over propulsive basslines and deep melodic grooves . gorje hewek & izhevski’s interpretation of lingala is a markedly different affair. focussing on musical layers rather than the vocal the duo’s signature spacey atmospheres and minimal rhythmic percussion add extra strings creating uplifting moments that contrast the original’s mood.

death on the balcony s ‘tides of fortune has been the subject of relentless -track id- requests pleading us to reveal the name of the artist and track since be-at-tv streamed the bpm performance of lee burridge and matthew dekay back in 2015. joined on the ep by three other tracks there s a cohesive feel to the two friends vibe. mysterious melodies drift in and out of the hypnotic grooves on rivers of sound that could have soundtracked a star trek episode from the original series. 1700 miles is delicate and deep with a simple infectious vocal sample. don t be deceived though. when played on a club system the kick drum and bassline draw you in while the atmospheric elements send the listener to otherworldly places. we feel rather privileged as this track is mark’s first solo outing from dotb under his new moniker “caramelli” and dotbs first full length on all day i dream. mark’s back in the band for memories of the future which completes the release with its funky bass and trippy ambience. close your eyes and be transported.
